Perhaps your favorite blogs share information on marketing, social media, technology, personal development, interests or hobbies. Tell us where you get your inspiration and spend your valuable time.

September 2013 – What is a Career “Ah Ha” Moment?

We are interested in your career “Ah Ha” moment or a story about someone you know who had an “Ah Ha” moment that blew you away.

December 2013 – Top 2013 Career Posts

No doubt you review your top career related posts each year – we want to know what was your #1 post for 2013.

The newly designed Career Development Carnival submission form prompts you for the information Hannah and I need to put together a great carnival each month.

Most of the fields are required; the exception is the brief description. When you provide a description or brief summary, you help us with developing your marketing teaser.

Why do I need a Notification?

Each month, the Career Development Carnival rotates between Elephants at Work and Career Sherpa. Your monthly notification will inform you:

1. Where to send your post information – link, author, topic and brief description
2. The cut off date for submission – the Monday before the carnival
3. If there is a special theme for the month

If your article or post was not included in a recent Career Development Carnival, it is probably due to one or more of these reasons:

Post is not Relevant

Only on-topic posts are accepted. Your post should reflect a point a view with valuable information for the reader. If your site is predominately about generating affiliate income or is a landing site for links, you probably won’t make our cut.

Early Submission

I know the early bird usually catches the worm, however, in this case, early means your post is too old. If you are not sure what old means, read the next reason. If a reminder would help you make a timely submission, sign up to receive notices on the right hand side of the page – Carnival Submitters: Receive Notices for Upcoming Carnivals.

Post is too old

What makes a carnival interesting to readers is they get to see new information and read something that is fresh. Rules of thumb, if your post is not published within the same month of the carnival, consider your submission old. Simply write something else and submit it.

Post is not dated

Submissions that lack a publish date are often very old posts. We won’t be spending time trying to figure it out so make it easy to see when the article was published.

Too Many Submissions

In our first carnival we had several people submit multiple articles, in fact, one writer submitted eight posts! Only submit your ONE best post – that’s what the readers want to see from you.

Missed Deadline

The Career Development Carnival submission site has a deadline for accepting submissions for the current carnival. If you submit something after the deadline, the current carnival host will not receive your information.

You’ve written about:

• How to manage a career (tips for getting along with others in the workplace, being a good leader, communicating better and a host of other tips)
• Great job search resources (tools, sites, and other information job seekers need)
• How to Explore a New Career (assessments, questions to ask yourself, researching new industries and occupations)
• How to Network (advice on overcoming fears, logic behind the intent of networking, conversation starters, stories of success)
• Building and Maintaining a Personal Brand (why this important, how to do it, examples and stories of great personal brands)
• Reputation Management (perhaps this isn’t as obvious, but how does one go about monitoring and protecting their personal brand?)

Recent, Non-Salesy Posts Only

I know, you want to push your new product or free webinar.  Please, not in the posts you submit for this carnival.  Once someone clicks through on your post, they can peruse your site. If you’ve done a good job promoting your value and you’ve got your site laid out correctly, then they should find your products and services, right?

Your post needs to be recent.  In other words, it has been published/posted within the previous two weeks.  Why? We want this carnival to have current and relevant information.  If you wrote a super post a year ago, let me ask you this? Is all the information still up to date?  Here’s a suggestion, re-purpose that great post and share other links to useful past content within it.

Practice What You Preach

Are you looking for a way to gain more exposure, help more people or build new peer/partner relationships?

Promoting your brand and developing your network are vital to your success. Carnivals allow you to do both of these.

Participating Means…

Add your URL and brief summary of the post you’ve written on The Career Carnival link collection site.

Sign up for the notifications/reminders of when posts are due and future topics.

Once the carnival goes live, help promote it among your readers by tweeting the hosted post. Stumble it. Add it to your Facebook fan page.  Make it a discussion on Google +.

And let me also encourage you to get to know your fellow contributors.   Comment on their post.  Isn’t that one of the best parts about blogging?

One post is accepted per blog or author. We do not accept posts directly advertising your products or services, including job postings. We reserve the right to screen all submissions for relevancy, timing and professional writing standards.

Posts on career development will be accepted from the first of the month until two days before publication. Your post should have been published on your blog within the last two weeks.

Submitting a Career Development Post

All articles are to be submitted to the Career Development Carnival through the Blog Carnival website.

We are no longer using the Blog Carnival website – join our notification email service on the right column to receive notifications of each month’s carnival and where to send your post.

When you submit a post, select the category that best describes your topic. The career topics available are:

• Reputation Management

There is an option to include a brief one line description – which we highly recommend. There is good chance this will be your tag line on the Career Development Carnival post, including your name and link back to the article.
